'The Escaping Airman', watercolour, 28 x 39 cm.
This title is a bit of a misnomer, as the painting depicts a WW2 Spitfire pilot rrunning to his aircraft with his parachute during a scramble. The title is because the painting copies an old silver statue of the same image which was used to commemorate the retirement of non-commissioned airmen and airwomen from the RAF. The painting is now in the possession of RAF Waddington and used to commemorate the same thing, replacing the silver statue.
The image is not available in print, unless you're retiring from RAF Waddington after a lifetime of service as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer and this is presented to you by the Station!
