'Lossiemouth Typhoons', watercolour, 59 x 37 cm.
Two Royal Air Force Lossiemouth Typhoons turn and break as they round the iconic Covesea lighthouse which stands next to the air base and on the headland above West Beach, Lossiemouth. The old invasion defences from WW2 are visible at far left on the beach behind the closest Typhoon, and the famous caves in the cliffs below the lighthouse are very visible. The Typhoon is the RAF's multi-role fighter aircraft and can be fitted with a very wide and powerful array of weapons. Here, they are in Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) fit in recognition of Lossiemouth's primary role of providing QRA North for the UK. The white missiles under the wing are AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile) whilst the missiles fitted into their recessed mounts under the fuselages are the new Meteor BVR (Beyond Visual Range) air-to-air missile - some of the most advanced air-to-air weaponry fielded anywhere in the world.
The original painting is now sold.
