'Homecoming', watercolour, 54 x 35 cm.
A Nimrod MR2 lands on the easterly runway at RAF Kinloss in northern Scotland. I've called the painting 'Homecoming' to celebrate the fact that, whilst maritime patrol has now moved down the coast to RAF Lossiemouth, Kinloss will always be the home of the Nimrod.
Here, the aircraft is just crossing the Findhorn road with 60 degrees of flap selected, having flown across Findhorn Bay, and will land just to our left. The aircraft is in a standard fit for maritime patrol; I've chosen XV244 for the aircraft number because this is the aircraft that I had the most memorable adventures with when I was a Nimrod pilot back in the day!
I'm really pleased with this painting and print; I wanted to produce my definitive 'Nimrod Portrait' and this is it. I'm not saying there won't be more at some stage in the future though...!
The original painting is sold.
