'Top Cover'
An RAF search and rescue Sea King winches an injured crewman from a trawler a long way out in the South West Approaches to the UK in choppy seas. At this distance, the Sea King is operating at the very limit of its range, so a Nimrod MR2 provides 'Top Cover' to ensure the Sea King's safety. It's bomb bay is full of dinghies and survival gear, ready to drop to survivors with pinpoint accuracy, even if the survivor is only seen once in heavy seas. With its full communications suite it will already be talking with air traffic control and the receiving hospital, even though both are out of range for the time being for the Sea King.
