'Remembering the Few', watercolour, 58 x 37 cm.
The 'Grace Spitfire', a Mk 9 Spitfire with registration ML 407, starts up with a cough of flame from the exhausts of its mightly Merlin engine. This Spitfire has had an amazingly interesting history. It has over 300 combat hours and was credited with the first kill over the Normandy beaches on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Later converted to a 2-seater advanced trainer for the Irish Air Corps it was later restored by Nick Grace and now operates as an air experience aircraft, allowing customers to experience flights in a Spitfire.
More information on the Spitfire is available on the Ultimate Warbirds Flights website.
