'On Findhorn Beach', watercolour, 58 x 38 cm.
Here we are on Findhorn Beach in northern Scotland. The beach is wide with many shallow puddles, and the seabreaks sit at the base of a gravel bank designed to absorb the force of the sea. The headland in the middle distance is the start of Culbin Forest, which runs all the way to Nairn. At far left is the inlet to Findhorn Bay, a tidal estuary where the River Findhorn flows into the Firth and the North Sea. To the right, we look across the narrowing Moray Firth towards Sutherland in the far north. The gap in the hills is the entrance to the Cromarty Firth where many oil rigs are berthed for servicing in Nigg. I've tried to emphasise that 'big sky' feeling that this wide and spacious beach gives. It's a truly beautiful spot!
The painting was sold by commission.
