'A Walk on West Beach, Lossiemouth', watercolour, 58 x 37 cm.
At the west end of West Beach, by Lossiemouth, is Covesea (old name Cowsea), where the lighthouse stands on the rocky promontory, looking out over the Moray Firth here in the north of Scotland. Here we are looking west as the Firth starts to narrow, culminating about 35 miles further on at Inverness; the mountains of Sutherland are just visible at right beyond the rocks which reach out to sea. The World War 2 lookout bunker on the clifftop and the beach defences at left are all visible. West Beach is a spectacular and beautiful beach from every aspect and this is my favourite view - the feeling of space, fresh air and warm sunshine is what I've tried to capture here in this lovely view.
The original painting is now sold.
