'Pluscarden Abbey', watercolour, 39 x 28 cm.
Pluscarden Abbey stands amongst the trees only a few miles from Elgin in Moray, Scotland and is a Benedictine Monastery. It is the only medieval monastery in the UK still being used for its original purpose! The building has been ruined in its life (between the 16th and 19th centuries) but was restored between the 1940s and the 1970s; you can see places in which the original design has changed. It's a beautiful building, though and I think it looks perfect in this monochrome watercolour (It's painted in a single watercolour pigment of black on white paper). I love the atmospheric look of monochrome and hope to do more of the beautiful buildings we have here in Scotland!
The original painting is sold by commission.
