'Patrol's End', watercolour, 58 x 38 cm.
A Poseidon P8-A of the Royal Air Force's 120 Squadron comes in to land at RAF Kinloss, its reflection showing in the calm waters of Findhorn Bay. The original painting was painted as a commissioned work for the captain of 'The Pride of Moray' who flew the aircraft on its delivery flight to the UK from the US and has played a huge role in the UK's P8-A programme. (I don't normally identify individual customers for privacy reasons but he was happy for this mention to be included!)
The P8's permanent home of RAF Lossiemouth, just 10 miles away from Kinloss, was having runway re-surfacing work done at the time of the early deliveries of the aircraft; they were therefore temporary residents at Kinloss for a while. I love setting aircraft in their own landscape settings and I really enjoyed portraying this big sky openness; the print's combination of complementary colours (purple and orange) make it a very attractive wall decoration (if I do say so myself!) as well as an aviation painting.
The original painting is sold by commission.
