'Lossiemouth Flypast', watercolour, 58 x 37 cm.
A P8 Poseidon aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth in the north of Scotland leads 2 Lossiemouth-based RAF Typhoons in a flypast in front of Covesea Lighthouse, turning towards RAF Lossiemouth in the background. The P8 is No 9 which makes it the latest P8 to join the RAF's maritime patrol force. The Typhoons are both armed - unusually for a formation - in a Quick Reaction Alert (QRA or just 'Q') fit which includes the RAF's new Meteor beyond-visial-range air-to-air missile powered by an air-breathing ramjet. This sort of development and updating will ensure that both these aircraft types will continue to form the core operational capability of RAF Lossiemouth for many years to come!
