'Springtime at Winding Walks, Fochabers,' watercolour, 58 x 37 cm.
These winding trails on Whiteash Hill were, in the 19th Century, part of the 'grounds' of the Duke and Duchess of Gordon; Gordon Castle is less than a mile away. In addition to the winding walks, Whiteash Woods is covered by paths over the hill which make great for great walking. We walk here regularly; sadly the Winding Walks themselves were badly damaged in recent gales - we hope they'll make a good recovery! This view is from adjacent to the top of the Forestry Commission car park; the hillside walks head up the hill, while the Winding Walks are reached by the right-hand path. At the extreme right beyond the pink flowers lies a small reservoir, now disused, in which our dog loves to swim!
