'The Northern Lights over Lochindorb', watercolour, 39 x 28 cm.
Lochindorb is a wild and majestic place in the highlands of Scotland, north or Grantown on Spey and south of Forres. The castle in the middle of the loch was the stronghold of Alexander Stewart (The Beast of Badenoch) in the 1300s but now stands as a ruin. It is a silent, dark and majestic place at night and here we see the Northern Lights at play above, and reflected in, the loch. The main start constellations here are accurate - you can see the Plough (Big Dipper) above the castle, and the colours of the Aurora are reflected serenely in the calm water of the loch.
