We're back in town now for this painting which is 'Elgin, West End', watercolour, 13 1/2 x 10" (36 x 25 cm). I love to ring the changes and alternate between rural views and townscapes. This is the west end of the High Street, looking west to Dr Gray's Hospital. I wanted to get colour, tonal contrast and some bright whites into this painting to convey the hustle and bustle of the town.
On a separate note, today marks the end of my Summer Sale (for want of a better title!). I would just like to take the opportunity to thank all those nice people who bought my paintings over the last month - you're very kind! I now have room to store my new works coming along! On that note, I'm shortly off on a painting and sketching trip around Europe so I'm really looking forward to painting some different architecture, different countryside and different views! I'll be gone for a month - I hope you'll see some of the results shortly after that! If you want to contact me or purchase one of my paintings, please note that you can still do so while I'm away. I will still be in email or mobile (cell) contact, and will be able to remove your item from sale when you order, but please note that I will be unable to dispatch it until I get back on 16th October 2014. Thank you!

Everyone knows that nothing excites an artist more than trying to capture the fleeting effects of light - and nothing excites this one more than sunsets! In this painting, 'Evening Light near Loch Torridon', watercolour, 10 1/4 x 7", I really wanted to go to town on that time just before sunset when the rays of the setting sun burst through the clouds, giving the scene a rich and dramatic colour. In this image, the hills shine in the sun's aura, the clouds glow with rich colours against the deep blue sky and the river and the grass all reflect the varied colours of the sky. I hope the overall effect is atmospheric and evocative of this beautiful time of day.
