Sometimes it's nice to get to do something different! This painting is of a Mediterranean subject - a hotel on an island in a bay on Majorca. It was commissioned in the run-up to Christmas as a Christmas present by the client, so I have had to wait to publish it. I enjoyed painting this one in the cold and wet run-up to Christmas, and it was my first use of the colour Pthalo Blue, which I had not tried before. I think it's going to stay part of my regular palette from now on. It's so bright!

As the year draws to a close I'd just like to say a big 'thank you' to all my friends and viewers for all their support, kind words and encouragement in my painting endeavours - it really means a lot. I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year, wherever you are. 'Childhood, Remembered', watercolour, 14 x 11".
Well, that's all the commissions complete! This has been by far my busiest month so far, and I've been heads-down working for weeks now. Although I've produced several paintings, all of them apart from this one are for Christmas presents so I've been asked not to publish them. It/'s quite frustrating because publicity is the lifeblood of any artist, and I hate being quiet on social media for this long! Anyway, this is 'A Rocky Cove', watercolour, 15 x 11". This painting celebrates the couple in the distance becoming engaged at this spot, and I wanted to create a happy, sunny piece full of light and optimism for the future. I have taken advantage of the impact and brightness available by contrasting colour opposites - in this case, orange and blue. These colours lie at diametrically opposite points on the 'colour wheel' and by placing them together, they produce real impact. The reds seem brighter because of the blue, and vice versa. I love this painting for its modern, bright look, as well as the patterns in the ancient sandstone. This painting is one of the first I have painted on Saunders Waterford High White paper, too. It's 100% cotton rag with a wonderful rough surface which gives the painting real character whilst ensuring it will last for a very, very long time. It also helps to produce this brightness and crisp, clear colours. I love it, and will be using it again - and again, and again! I look forward to showing you some more of my work from December after Christmas and in the early New Year. For now, I'm looking forward to being able to concentrate on my own projects again - watch this space!
Oh my Goodness, it's the run-up to Christmas! I'm a bit heads-down at the moment with only another 6 commissions to do for Christmas. Wish I could show you some of them but, hey, they're a secret. I'd just like to say a big 'thank you' to all my customers! Sales are really starting to increase in the last few months, so good things seem to lie ahead! Thank you to everyone who has supported me this year - and I look forward to showing you what I've been up to this month after Christmas!
